Jon McLaughlin reveals burning Rangers motivation as new signing stands tall in face of 'serious competition'

Jon McLaughlin admits keeping his place in the Scotland squad is the fuel to keep him fully focused on life at Rangers.

The former Hearts stopper signed on a Bosman seal last month after a spell in England with Sunderland.

And he admits a huge battle awaits if he is to dislodge Allan McGregor from his place between the sticks.

But the motivation of continuing as a member of Steve Clarke 's squad is more than enough of a carrot to keep him sharp and ready for any opportunities that come his way.

He said: "Of course this is a massive football club with a good squad and a fantastic goalkeeper. I want to be ready for when I am called upon and I understand the situation, the task ahead and the challenge.

"I want to be a valuable member of the squad and contribute regularly. I definitely want to be involved in the national team setup moving forward so I will be giving 100 per cent every day to try and keep a spot alive for myself.

"It's great to be here and be back training. Obviously, I have played at Ibrox a couple times before and I really enjoyed it and was a real eye-opener to the size of the club. I'm Just looking forward now to getting back to matches.

"We want to have serious competition in every area of the park. I am here to compete for the shirt and of course, I understand Allan McGregor has earned that shirt through his performances so it is up to me to be ready to contribute when asked to."

With the opportunity to stop Celtic 's quest for an historic 10 In A Row, McLaughlin realises there is a chance to be part of something that would be remembered forever more.

And he admits that the players are not short of confidence they can have a campaign to remember.

He said: "There is a great belief amongst the players.

"Part of the excitement of joining this club was wanting to be a part of something special and it is great to see how focused all the boys are."
