Jon McLaughlin facing Rangers 'little issue' as Steve Clarke leaves goalkeeper out of Scotland squad

Steve Clarke revealed how Jon McLaughlin was omitted from his Scotland World Cup qualifying squad due to a ‘little issue’ at Rangers.

Clarke, who signed a new contract extension at Hampden, was told by the Ibrox club that the 33-year-old was unavailable for selection.

McLaughlin has featured three times for the Light Blues this season with Steven Gerrard managing veteran No. 1 Allan McGregor’s game time.

Zander Clark and Liam Kelly were called up to work with new goalkeeper coach Chris Woods with David Marshall also left out after dropping down to third choice at Derby County.

McLaughlin, who wasn't involved in the Gers squad for the trip to Ross County, was part of Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad and Clarke said he’ll be involved again once available.

But after naming his squad for the triple header against Denmark, Moldova and Austria Clarke said: “Jon’s got a little issue at Rangers.

“Rangers told us he wasn’t available so he misses out. He’s always been in our squad and he’s played a few games this season.

“I watched him play at Tannadice and he’s expecting to play a few more games this season.

“When he’s fit and available he’ll be at the front of my mind for selection.”
