Jon Jones says he’d embarrass Brock Lesnar if they fought

For months, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones shut down the idea of meeting Daniel Cormier at heavyweight.

Every time someone brought up the notion, Jones insisted that a third fight with the former UFC heavyweight champion, if it was going to happen, must be contested at 205 pounds, where their first two fights (the latter of which officially never happened as a no-contest) were conducted.

But a heavyweight bout with a 42-year-old has only fought once in the past eight years? That’s apparently more to Jones’ liking.

Former WWE champion and Olympic wrestling gold medalist Kurt Angle, who has never competed in MMA, was for some reason booked on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” on Monday, and was asked his opinion on whether Brock Lesnar, the former UFC heavyweight champion whose last octagon appearance came in 2016, would ever do real fighting as opposed to the cartoon variety ever again.

Angle had this to say:

Jones, who’s spent so many years rebuffing every call to go up to 265, went on Instagram and said he would have little trouble winning a fight with Lesnar … but also did not shut down the idea of the fight happening.

“He knows that’s what his friends want to hear, but he doesn’t really want this fight. Trust me,” Jones commented on the post below:

We’ll admit, even at this late date in Lesnar’s career, Jones vs. Lesnar would sell a whole lot of pay-per-views. But Lesnar is still under WWE contract, and his athletic window comes closer and closer to shutting with each passing day.

Meantime, we’ll wait for Jones to call out new UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic.
