Jon Jones responds to Dominick Reyes, hints he wants Jan Blachowicz to be next UFC title challenger

Jon Jones is looking for fresh meat.

In a tweet issued Friday, UFC light heavyweight champion Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC) responded to recent comments made by former title challenger Dominick Reyes. Jones brushed off Reyes’ claims he’s avoiding a “dogfight” and hinted he may be looking at a matchup with Jan Blachowicz for his next fight.

Now suddenly I’m afraid of a good dogfight?” Jones wrote. “Pretty sure I walked him down for 25 minutes straight when we fought. One thing about being the champion of the world, you got to search for fresh meat on every soil. I’m feeling like popping some (cherries) in Poland, haven’t had that yet.”

Jones’ comments stem from a recent interview Reyes (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) had with MMA Junkie. In the interview, Reyes said Jones was holding up the UFC from booking a fall rematch between the two fighters.

“I know the UFC is on board,” Reyes told MMA Junkie. “I know I’m on board. The issue is Jon right now. He’s going to say he’s down online, obviously on Twitter. When he gets those contracts in front of him, he’s a little different.

“It was a straight dog fight, brother. The last fight was a pure dog fight. I don’t think he wants to do that again. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t think he wants these hands again. He doesn’t want to get in this dog fight with me.”

Jones and Reyes fought Feb. 8 at UFC 247. A back-and-forth battle saw both men have their moments for 25 minutes, but Jones was named winner by split decision. Media and fans also had split scorecards, with many thinking Reyes should have won.
