Jon Jones issues a $100,000 challenge to future UFC light heavyweight champs

Jon Jones doesn’t think anyone will come close to breaking his records set as UFC light heavyweight champion – and he’s willing to bet on it.

Jones (25-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC), who announced on Monday he’s vacating the 205-pound title he’s consistently held since 2011, challenges any future champion to complete six consecutive defenses. The reward: a $100,000 donation to any charity of the fighter’s choosing.

Jones wanted to challenge fighters to break his record of eight straight UFC title defenses, but he doesn’t think it would be a realistic task.

“Was going to challenge a light heavyweight to beat my world championship record but we all know that’s probably not happening in this lifetime,” Jones wrote on Twitter.

The 33-year-old UFC star said he he intends moving to the heavyweight division now that he’s vacated his belt. He pointed to productive conversations with the UFC brass after his vacancy announcement, and it appears a deal could get done to see him jump up a weight class.

Jones cited lack of pay for his desire to leave his 205-pound title. This comes after months of public dispute with UFC president Dana White over his contract.

“Bones” last fought in February at UFC 247 where he defeated Dominick Reyes in a controversial unanimous decision win.
