UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been stripped of his belt after testing positive for a banned steroid.
The UFC confirmed Tuesday an initial report by TMZ Sports that Jones tested positive from a sample that was collected following the July 28 weigh-in for his fight against Daniel Cormier.
Jones regained the light-heavyweight belt with a third-round stoppage of Cormier on July 29 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., using a head kick that sent Cormier to the canvas and set up a pounding of 20 unanswered blows.
The California State Athletic Commission and Jones' spokeswoman did not immediately respond to the report that said Jones submitted a positive test for Turinabol.
The case will be adjudicated by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, the UFC announced.
Jones previously submitted a positive test for a banned performance-enhancing substance that scrapped the UFC 200 main event against Cormier. Jones was suspended for one year.
A second positive test could result in a ban at least double that.
