Jon Gries (aka ‘Uncle Rico’) visits Gardner Minshew and the Jags

Minshew Mania has taken over the First Coast thanks to Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew II, who has injected more life into the team’s fanbase after losing veteran Nick Foles to injury for a few months. With Minshew’s success has also come national exposure, loads of merchandise hitting the shelves and countless memes comparing him to Jon Gries a.k.a. “Uncle Rico” of “Napoleon Dynamite.” On Thursday, the rookie finally got to meet the legend in person, as Gries made his way to the Jags’ facility for a visit.

Gries was first spotted early in the day filming a commercial at Waffle House. Afterward, it didn’t take long for word to get out and for fans to figure out what was going on as he revealed the commercial would air on NFL Network this Sunday.

Ever since the release of “Napoleon Dynamite” in 2004, the movie has been a favorite in the comedy genre and has developed a cult following. Minshew’s recent success only brought more attention to the movie which Gries played a big-time role in alongside Jon Heder.

As for Minshew on the field, the rookie has been on fire this season and his current passer rating of 110.6 and 73.9 completion percentage are the highest ever by a rookie through their first three career games in the Super Bowl era. Hopefully, meeting the legendary Cries will only propel him to greater heights as the Jags will take on the Denver Broncos this Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High.
