Jon Flanagan ruled out of Rangers Europa League clash as he undergoes surgery

Rangers will be without defender Jon Flanagan for up to three weeks after he had surgery on a troublesome hernia.

Steven Gerrard revealed the former Liverpool star had the operation and would definitely be out of Tuesday night's clash with St Joseph's in the Europa League.

Flanagan had made the left back jersey his own towards the end of last season with a series of impressive performances and the injury will be a blow to him.

It means Borna Barisic and Andy Halliday will battle it out to start for Rangers on Tuesday night and Sunday's team selection against Oxford suggest it will be the Croat who gets the nod.

Gerrard brought Barisic on for 30 minutes while Halliday played 60 as captain of the makeshift team.

It means the Croatia international will be fresher to play in Gibraltar just 48 hours after the 5-0 win over Oxford.

Alfredo Morelos is also likely to be involved after missing the Oxford game with a groin injury, while Allan McGregor should also be fit.

Scott Arfield won't be involved though, despite messaging Steven Gerrard to make himself available after international duty.
