Jon Flanagan is guilty and Rangers should stop with the conspiracy theories - Hotline

Rangers have seen red over the Jon Flanagan ban following Sunday’s Old Firm win but the Ibrox sin bin have been overflowing this season.

The Light Blues have had 15 players sent to the naughty step and Hotline punters reckon the club should look closer to home rather than aim their fire at Hampden.

Alex Greer, Condorrat, said: “Rangers’ disciplinary record is a disgrace. The SFA are a laughing stock but whataboutery won’t fix their own problems. Steven Gerrard is respected as a player and young manager but he is in danger of ruining his reputation.”

Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Flanagan was guilty as sin and his employers should shut up regarding conspiracy theories. The lad was lucky to stay on the park and a two-game ban should help him think about his future conduct.”

Jim McClean, Isle of Bute, said: “Two weeks ago Gerrard said he would stamp out his players red cards but they were at it again last Sunday. If you are really serious, get your players to toe the line.”

Jack Armstrong, Bathgate, said: “Rangers should be more concerned about why their players are always involved in these red card situations, rather than thinking there is an agenda against them.”

Rangers in danger of looking as ridiculous and detached from reality as the SFA – Keith Jackson

James Brown, Glasgow, said: “The paranoia is cascading down the marble staircase at Ibrox following the dead rubber game against Celtic. No mention has been made of Rangers being allowed to hand pick referees. Willie Collum has suddenly been appointed to this week’s dead rubber game against Kilmarnock, months after Rangers issued a statement against him. Strange that.”

Alistair Cook, Edinburgh, said: “Rangers have had plenty of decisions go there way over the years. They have short memories.”

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “It’s funny Rangers think they are the victims of bias, yet fans of every other club in the country agree the bias is totally in their favour. The fact the disciplinary panel keep having to do refs jobs in their games proves this beyond doubt.”

But Gers fan David Crawford emailed: “Look at numerous videos posted on social media which clearly show we are entitled question the process.

“As usual we get no answers.”

Dr Robert Pender, London, said: “It is obvious that Clare Whyte is only a figurehead or a dartboard.

“Why don’t the authorities reveal the names of who is on the judgement panel? The decision to charge one player and let the other go is strange. Charge both players and let them and their clubs bring evidence in defence.”

Kenny White, London, said: “Can I just remind Celtic fans the referee can’t give something he hasn’t seen and the ball has to be in play before a penalty can be given. Get over it Bhoys, your team took a hell of a beating.”

Meanwhile Alfredo Morelos says he fancies playing in a more competitive league.

Brian Kelly, Peterhead, said: “Morelos says he is very happy with everything Rangers have accomplished this year. Sent off five times, gubbed in both cups and the league. If that makes him happy God help us.”

Joe Wilson emailed: “Gerrard should sell Morelos right now and use the cash to strengthen the team. He will continue to jeopardise the club, team, and morale. Rangers don’t need him as wee Defoe is the real deal.”

Alfredo Morelos suffers Colombia blow as Rangers star’s indiscipline comes back to haunt him

There is set to be departures at Celtic as well.

Joe McGonnell, Barlanark, said: “I’d like to see Lennon get the job and start the clear out at Celtic.”

The Scotland manager search rumbles on but at least the SFA seem to have narrowed it down to Derek McInnes of Steve Clarke.

But William Masson, Aboyne, said: “For the sake of their careers McInnes and Clarke would be wiser to stay at their clubs.”

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinney, said: “The SFA should not be unsettling clubs. I wonder what would happen if Shelley Kerr applied for the job. She is far more successful than anyone else in the frame and certainly wouldn’t do any worse than the previous managers.”
