Jon Favreau is ‘open’ to the idea of a Mandalorian film: ‘There’s no rulebook now’

The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau says he is “definitely” open to the idea of turning the Star Wars spin-off into a film franchise.

Set in the Star Wars universe, the Emmy nominated series stars Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter and is available to stream exclusively on Disney+, where it has been a huge hit.

Having previously worked on a number of Marvel films, writer Favreau was asked whether The Mandalorian would follow in the footsteps of Disney+’s WandaVision, where characters from the TV show will also feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking to Variety, Favreau said that he would never say never as the line between TV and film is constantly “blurring”.

“Things that you would have only seen in the movie theatre, you’re seeing on streaming, and I think it could go the other way as well,” he said.

Baby Yoda - or The Child - will return for a second season (Disney)

Explaining that there was “no rush” to create a Mandalorian film, he continued: “But we’re definitely open to it and excited to see where the story leads us and have that flexibility – because there’s no rulebook now.”

The Mandalorian season 2 will be available to stream on Disney+ from 30 October.
