Jon Dadi Bodvarsson's exciting first words as Bolton Wanderers player after Millwall transfer

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is hoping to go as high as possible as he can with Bolton Wanderers and is excited to become the latest Icelandic player to represent the club.

The Iceland international has completed a move from the Championship side on a free transfer and put pen to paper on a 18-month-deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Bodvarsson joins a striking department at Wanderers which also includes Dion Charles and Amadou Bakayoko.

The 29-year-old has experience of playing in England since 2016, playing for Wolves, Reading and Millwall in that time.

He becomes the fifth signing of the January transfer window for Bolton following the permanent acquisitions of Charles and Aaron Morley, as well as the loan signings of Marlon Fossey and James Trafford.

Players from Iceland to have previously represented Wanderers include the likes of Gudni Bergsson, Gretar Steinsson and Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Bodvarsson is pleased to become the latest on that list as he revealed that he spoke to Steinsson before coming to Bolton and that Gudjohnson was his 'idol' as a child.

And he is looking forward to help the Wanderers team out with his experience in the months to come as he targets going as high up the pyamid with Bolton as he can.

He said: “Bolton is such a big club and a club I’ve known since a kid watching the Premier League.

"For me to be here right now, I’m absolutely over the moon.

“I remember all the players; (Eidur) Gudjohnsen, for example, was like my idol when I was a kid, watching him play.

"Gudni Bergsson and (Gretar) Steinsson to name a few. I actually spoke to Steinsson before I came here, as well, and he had nothing but good things to say.

“That plays a big part and I’m excited to be one of those Icelandic players.

"I still remember the first time I played in England – my debut with Wolves.

“From there on I absolutely loved it; something about the English game.

“The atmosphere and the football is just different and I think it just fits me as well.

“Hopefully I can bring some of my experience to the team and help them out.

"I have signed for this club and you should always aim to go as high as possible. Hopefully I will be able to do my best to help the team on its way to the top.

“Maybe it will take some time but it seems the club is on the right track and I can’t wait to start.”
