Jon Courtenay's Britain's Got Talent win makes history for Ant and Dec

Jon Courtenay's Britain's Got Talent win has made history for the show and its hosts Ant and Dec.

The Northern singing comedian triumphed in Saturday night's final after seeing off Sign Along With Us choir and variety act Steve Royle in the public vote.

Jon brought the judges to their feet with a hilarious and moving final routine which addressed the many struggles we've faced in 2020, ending with a line about Britain' carrying on' in the wake of everything this year has thrown at us,

The 47-year-old was gobsmacked as Ant and Dec called him as the winner, gasping "you're not going to make me speak are you?!" but the Geordie duo had plenty to say about his win.

Jon was their Golden Buzzer act and the first ever Golden Buzzer to win BGT in 13 years. The presenting pair punched the air as they revealed that fact with judge Amanda Holden overheard shouting "well done boys!"

After the credits rolled on the final, which was slammed by some viewers, Ant and Dec tweeted: "Congratulations to @joncourtenay the winner of @BGT 2020 and our golden buzzer."

Their post was met with a warm reaction from their many followers. One replied: "What a brilliant end to the series - such a fitting and worthy winner!!! And well done to both of you - it's about time one of your golden buzzers won, and in your 30th anniversary year as well!!" and another reacted: "Congratulations to @joncourtenay a well deserved winner.

"Can’t believe it’s the first time a golden buzzer has won BGT and it was @antanddec who did. Simon is going to be so mad with jealousy. Howay the lads!"
