Jolle says Jhatka-cut meat is acceptable to Hindus

Minister for Waqf and Muzrai Shashikala Jolle has expressed support to some Hindutva organisations that are campaigning for a boycott of halal-cut meat.

“We should all support Jhatka-cut meat over halal-cut meat, as Jhatka-cut is valid as per Hindu traditions,” she said in Nippani on Saturday.

“All of us should understand the religious principles and traditions behind such practices. But then, it is well known that Jhatka-cut meat is also approved in temples where meat is used as an offering to Gods. It is true that halal-cut meat is acceptable to Muslims who have religious rules that approve of it. Those rules do not apply to Hindus. This is the reason why some Hindutva organisations are campaigning against halal-cut meat,’’ she said.

To a query, she said that she does not support violence in the name of campaign against halal-cut meat. She declared that the State Government will celebrate Ugadi as Dharmik Divas every year.
