Joleon Lescott helps former Premier League stars win the NHS Charities Together Cup

Shaun Wright-Phillips, Fabrice Muamba and Joleon Lescott have been crowned as the winners of the first ever NHS Charities Together Cup, the celebrity FIFA tournament raising money for the Urgent Covid-19 Appeal.

They secured the title with a 2-1 win over Love Islanders Chris & Kem and Shaughna Phillips in the finals on Sunday May 3.

After a 7-0 demolition job by Muamba against Shaughna Phillips in the first match, the second game saw a nail-biter between Wright-Phillips and Chris Hughes.

A missed penalty by the former Man City and Chelsea star, who then squandered a 1-0 lead, proved costly, with a goal in the 87th minute securing Hughes’ victory.

It all came down to a final showdown between Lescott and Kem Cetinay, with the former Premier League defender running out a 2-0 winner.

The finals were presented by an all-star commentary team of Ben Shepherd and Chris Kamara and featured a couple of classic Kammy moments, including a framed picture of the Queen falling off his wall, dampening his chances of an imminent knighthood, before suggesting that FIFA 20 be used to decide the final standings in the real Premier League.

On taking part in the tournament, Muamba said: “I spent four weeks in hospital once and I’ve got nothing but huge respect for the NHS doctors and nurses.”
