JoJo Siwa Is Being Ruthlessly Roasted Online For A Head-Scratching Musical Cover

jojo-siwa

JoJo Siwa is being mercilessly mocked online (again), this time thanks to a musical cover, a fashion transformation, and an unhealthy dash of auto-tune.

If you’re lucky enough to have not seen the source of the fanfare, let me be the bearer of some truly bizarre news.

Siwa took to TikTok earlier this week to share a clip of her performing a cover of the 1981 Kim Carnes song “Bette Davis Eyes”.

That’d all be straightforward enough, were it not for the fact that Siwa drenched the brief rendition in a level of auto-tune that probably has Charli xcx questioning her recent defence of it

After performing this song live and then seeing the beautiful response to it, I decided to go record a studio vocal…. I’m undecided if I should release it on Spotify or not…. Would you want me to?!!!🤍 if you would, I’m thinking maybe end of this week?

It’s raspy to the point of Siwa sounding like she’s battling strep throat, which has me worried for Chris Hughes considering all that kissing going on.

Add in the extra layer of Siwa being dressed as a version of Davis — complete with bright red lipstick, pearl necklaces and what many described as a “tradwife” aesthetic — and you’ve got all the fodder for the internet to well and truly lose its shit.

No seriously, the clip has been viewed almost 20 million times, and has spawned countless reaction videos as TikTokers try to make sense of Siwa’s latest puzzling manoeuvre.

From the seemingly drastic “new identity and rebrand” in the wake of Siwa’s split from Kath Ebbs to the “AI and unnatural” sound of her vocals — which some thought were an “anti-smoking ad” — netizens are holding very few punches.

Some questioned whether Siwa was purposefully rage baiting with the clip (it worked), while others stood in admiration of her delivering yet another “insane move” that’s gotten everyone talking.

One person unfazed by the commentary is Hughes, who commented on his new girlfriend’s clip with a supportive, “Ugh so good, you’re perfect”.

Adding to the hullabaloo, Siwa went on to share shots from a photoshoot in which she’s wearing the same costume, and even teased (or threatened) to drop the full version of the cover later this week.

If she does release the cover, it’s probably destined for a similar reception as “Karma”, Siwa’s sapphic 2024 single which “invented gay pop” and similarly sent the internet into a tizzy.

All of that without even mentioning her Justin Bieber car, which honestly I don’t have the energy to relive.
