Joint police operation and stinger bring 'fail-to-stop' driver to a halt

A tactical team effort between a police helicopter, road traffic police, police dogs and a stinger helped bring a suspicious fail-to-stop driver to a halt.

Greater Manchester Police tried to flag down the vehicle late on Sunday night (October 17) but it failed to stop.

The National Police Air Service North West helicopter was in the area and tracked the vehicle.

As the driver was driving dangerously in his attempts to evade police, it was decided to deploy a stinger device to bring the suspect safely to a halt.

Stingers are the preferred tyre deflation measure used across UK regional police forces to halt fleeing suspects and criminals who pose safety risks to the public whilst driving.

GMP tweeted: "This vehicle failed to stop for #TransportUnit patrol but was quickly spotted by @NPASNorthWest who guided #RPU &@GMPDog patrols into its location.

"Vehicle pursued and stung. Driver detained on Wigan Rd & arrested."
