Join our special panel event on racism and sport

Reach, NottinghamshireLive's parent company, are hosting a special panel event on racism and sport on Thursday, August 5 from 1pm to 2.30pm.

Retired Olympic and Team GB bronze and gold medallist Anyika Onoura is the invited guest alongside Gurmej Singh Pawar, Barford Tigers Hockey Club chairman.

The duo will be sharing their unique experiences in the world of sport.

Onoura, who made her Olympic debut at London 2012, will be speaking about her achievements in sport, the barriers it still needs to overcome for ethnic minorities.

Following the racial occurrences in sport, with the abuse of fans and players due to the colour of their skin, Onoura will be highlighting the greater role the media has to play through sport coverage.

Pawar is the co-founder of the 'All in Movement' to make hockey inclusive as he thrives to offer minority groups a place to compete the sport they love.

The event is set to last 90 minutes, with the last 30 minutes dedicated to questions from the audience.
