A huge virtual choir and a big band - open to all - are out to recreate two classic Christmas songs this winter to bring some festive cheer.
BBC weatherman Owain Wyn Evans is launching the seasonal challenge, which is on the lookout for both singers and anyone with a musical instrument to perform Winter Wonderland and Frosty the Snowman.
And even if someone's idea of being musical sounds more like a din to anybody else they are being encouraged to take part in The Great Northern Christmas Singalong, which will culminate in a Christmas Day broadcast for families to enjoy alongside the turkey and pud.
The call-out to action is being made across the north and Radio Newcastle will be among the BBC stations to air the end-result.
Owain is teaming up on the BBC North challenge with the BBC Philharmonic orchestra, as well as CBBC and CBeebies favourites Hacker and Dodge, to lead what actually will be two giant online performances.
The first will feature the virtual choir singing Winter Wonderland while in the second the big band will play along to Frosty the Snowman.
Members of the public are being encouraged to film themselves doing either and they can then upload their efforts to their BBC local radio website.
A spokesman said: "Whether you’re playing trombone, drums, singing along or even just banging your pots and pans, we want your contributions."
Those interested in taking part have until December 6 to upload their videos which then will be sent to the BBC Philharmonic, in readiness for the final performance to be broadcast as part of a special radio programme at 1pm on Christmas Day across the BBC's 10 northern radio stations. The video content will be live across social media too.
