Join Night Walk around Newcastle - a bight idea to help put charity in the spotlight

A night-time walk is offering people a chance to shine - quite literally - by taking to the streets around Newcastle and Gateshead in support of charity.

Participants are being encouraged to join the upcoming event, which is out to raise money for Cancer Research UK, and to don neon face paint, even fairylights, and take along glow-in-the-dark accessories.

The Shine Night Walk will take place on October 12, as part of a national event which will see thousands out on similar night walks in other city centres.

Those interested in taking part are invited to sign up online and pick a type of cancer they would like to support. They then are asked to raise as much sponsorship as they can to help in the charity's work to tackle the disease.

Cancer Research UK, whose powerful TV campaigns such as Right Now always hit home with viewers, is encouraging walkers to "light up the streets, celebrate, feel proud - and raise money for life-saving research."

The Newcastle walk will also take in the Gateshead side of the Tyne where it will begin at 7pm in Baltic Square before criss-crossing the main bridges during the course of the evening.

The 10k route will take walkers first across Gateshead Millennium Bridge then on a circular walk which will pass the likes of the Centre for Life; Discovery Museum; Chinatown; St James' Park; the Northern Institute for Cancer Research; Newcastle Civic Centre, City Hall and Theatre Royal

Refreshments and toilets will be available en route which is also wheelchair-friendly.
