Johnstone thug made rape threats against cops' wives and spat at officers

A thug spat at police and made rape threats against their wives after officers attended a disturbance in Johnstone.

Steven Flynn, who has a High Court conviction, kicked and spat at cops in Bankside Avenue, Johnstone, before making threats to "slash" officers' kids and rape their wives.

Flynn, 51, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court via video-link from HMP Low Moss on Friday and admitted to the conduct on August 31, last year which included calling police officers “scummy piece of s**t”," Renfrewshire Live reports.

Procurator fiscal depute David McDonald told the court: “Around 7.30pm on August 31, PC Barr and Brown were on uniformed mobile patrol when they received a report to attend a disturbance.

“On arrival, officers noted Flynn in the garden with no clothing on his top half and was intoxicated.

“Officers spoke with him and persuaded him to put his top on.

“He immediately became aggressive towards the officers and his behaviour caused the officers to take hold of him and take him to the ground.

“Flynn picked PC Barr, striking him on the right knee.

“Handcuffs were applied, as well as fast-straps, to prevent him kicking out.

“Further officers were requested to attend and the accused made attempts to spit at both officers, but his head was turned away and a spit hood was applied.

“Flynn made threats including, ‘I’ll get my mates down to rape your f*****g wives’ and he threatened to spit in their mouths.

“Further officers attended in a celled van and the accused was taken to the van where he continued his aggressive behaviour.

“He shouted, ‘I’ll rip your daft head aff, I only spat at cops, ya scummy piece of s**t, ya prick, I’ll do your family, you prick, I’ll slash you and your kids, you prick, ya po****r, that’s what you are, a p**f, I’ll spit on every one of yous in custody if you refuse to let me go’.

“Flynn was informed he was under arrest and taken to Greenock police station."

Charlie McCusker, defence solicitor, told the court that Flynn recognises that a custodial sentence was “inevitable”.

Mr McCusker added: “He is embarrassed as he has no recollection of events, but accepts whatever police said.

“He was intoxicated. Alcohol is the cause of all his problems."

Sheriff Brian Mohan said: “This erupted out of drink.

“My concern is your record, your High Court order and your previous convictions."

Sheriff Mohan deferred sentence for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report until May 30.

Flynn was remanded in custody meantime.
