Johnstone: Fire crews tackle blaze as flames take hold of former nursery

Fire crews were called to battle a blaze at a former nursery building in Johnstone this evening, with dramatic images of the flames captured on social media.

Photos show smoke billowing into the sky amid the blaze, however thankfully there has been no reports of any injuries.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to incident at around 5.20pm this evening and sent three fire engines to Walpole Place.

The SFRS confirmed at 8.30pm this evening (Friday) they are no longer in attendance with the fire having been extinguished.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson advised Glasgow Live: "We sent three appliances to Walpole Place at approximately 5.20pm this evening."

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed enquiries into the blaze are now underway and said: "We received a report of a fire at a premises on Walpole Place, Johnstone, around 5.35pm.

"No-one was injured and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Enquiries are ongoing."
