Johnston Press, the regional publisher that is attempting to forge a digital future, has refreshed its online national entertainments and listings platform WOW247.
The revamp of the what’s-on entertainments site mixes news of events with interviews, blogs, picture galleries, competitions, reviews and, inevitably, BuzzFeed-style listicles.
Users can discover what is available locally because content - such as films, restaurants, music gigs and exhibitions - is being uploaded by a network of “city editors” located in 10 major UK cities.
WOW247’s general manager, Steven Thomas, says: “The new platform and brand have been created to engage with a younger, mobile and social audience”.
He argues that the new WOW247 is “a massive leap forward” on the original, which was launched in 2012. “As well as showcasing the work of our ever-growing team of contributors, it offers a compelling opportunity to commercial clients and partners”, he says.
