Johnston Press axes three editors

More editors are being required to walk the plank by Johnston Press. As part of its proposed restructuring of six of its Midlands titles, three editors are expected to lose their jobs.

The titles and editors affected by the decision are the Northampton Chronicle and Echo (David Summers), Northants Telegraph (Neil Pickford), Daventry Express (Matt Cornish), Market Harborough Mail (Brian Dodds), Leamington Courier (Chris Lillington) and the Rugby Advertiser (Simon Steele).

Evidently, the group editor in Northampton will assume responsibility for the Daventry Express; the editor at Kettering will run the Harborough Mail; and the editor of the Leamington Spa Courier will also edit the newspapers in Rugby.

According to an internal company announcement, a "consultation period" should be completed by 7 September. I imagine that to be a redefinition of the word consultation.
