Within a week of taking up his new role, Boris Johnson has made his first visit to Scotland as Prime Minister - dropping in to HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane.
After visiting the base this morning, Johnson is set for talks with Ruth Davidson and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon later this afternoon.

Johnson was appointed Prime Minister last week after a landslide victory over former foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt, however he is set to face a serious challenge in Scotland after a new poll revealed rising support for independence.
According to recently published findings, his arrival as PM would lead to a majority of Scots backing independence - whilst another showed that a majority of Tory voters would happily see Scotland leave the United Kingdom if it lead to Brexit being delivered.

In 2014 West Dunbartonshire was one of just four areas in the country to back independence, whilst the locality also voted strongly in favour of remaining a member of the European Union.
