'Johnson's Universal Credit cut is shameful as he grinds down the UK just like Thatcher'

We must never forget the day that Boris Johnson decided to grab £20 a week Universal Credit from the working poor and other struggling Brits.

He is plunging children deeper into poverty, making families lose their homes and forcing workers to choose between eating and heating.

He says there is no alternative but it was never inevitable. It was Johnson’s choice and it tells us much about him and his party.

Saying in a keynote speech that he’s levelling up England’s North and Midlands is ridiculous when everyone knows he is grinding down those regions and Britain as a whole.

He fancies himself as another Thatcher and the similarities are there right enough: Thatcher hammered the North and was booted out of No10 when the party finally realised it had a loser at the helm.

A waste of life

Despairing farmers culling pigs as cheap pork from the EU floods the British market is yet more national self-harm.

This crisis is another blow inflicted by Boris Johnson’s failure to plan ahead and minimise the damage inflicted by his bad Brexit.

Farmers face bankruptcy as a result.

Forcing change

Campaigning women showed their strength by forcing Home Secretary Priti Patel to upgrade the inquiry into the officer who murdered Sarah Everard.

The jury is out until we see all the details of the inquiry, including who will chair it.

But thankfully we are finally heading in the right direction, working towards laws that tackle violence against women and build a culture that condemns it as unthinkable.
