Johnny Ward opens up about possibility of returning to Fair City

Johnny Ward has told how some viewers are begging him to return to Fair City to spice up the storylines despite his character’s bad boy ways.

The Love/Hate actor is best known as Carrigstown kidnapper Ciaran Holloway, after the show’s biggest plot saw him keep Katy O’Brien locked in a box for a year.

Yet, despite having fans spit at him and assault him over the character, he revealed people are now eager for his return.

The Dubliner, 33, told the Irish Mirror: “They miss him, and that’s what I am getting a lot.

“People saying, ‘You wouldn’t go back into Fair City, would you?’

“And I say, ‘Why? Is it not good?’, and they say, ‘Ah no I just want more kind of violence and grittiness and stuff like that’.

“But look, the first time I did it I got spat on, I got hit across the head by a woman down in Cork. The second time around it was just people were happy to see him back.”

He returned to the RTE soap for its 30th anniversary, which saw him embroiled in another kidnapping.

Johnny said: “It is very much a lovely family and I would go back in a heartbeat, I really would.”

His next role is Captain Hook in Alan Hughes’ and Karl Broderick’s Peter Pan drive-in panto at Malahide Castle from December 11.
