Johnny Vegas splashed on 'knackered old bus' from Malta after boozy night

Setting up a glamping site in the Yorkshire Dales was Johnny Vegas’s version of a “midlife crisis”, he says.

“The sports car thing is a bit ‘done’, isn’t it? So I bought a knackered old bus and converted it for glamping,” the comedian, 50, explains.

After a boozy night, Johnny snapped up a bus on eBay and later discovered it had to be shipped from Malta.

“If I’d bothered to scroll down I’d have found much cheaper alternatives in Britain,” he tells Radio Times.

Johnny’s quest to refurbish old buses as glamorous accommodation is documented in Channel 4’s Johnny Vegas: Carry on Glamping, which will air next Wednesday at 10pm.

His Field of Dreams is located in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding National Beauty on a working farm.

And he believes the project has given him purpose as his career had started to feel “unsatisfactory” after the deaths of his parents within two years.

“I felt like I was on a treadmill, and it had been a long time since I’d done anything that inspired me or brought me satisfaction,” Johnny says.

“As a stand-up you make your own work, but I’ve been sleepwalking, waiting for it to come in. And that’s why the glampsite became so important. It was something proactive.

“Friends say they haven’t seen me so animated in years.” Sounds more like a midlife anti-crisis.
