Sexton claims Ireland's new-look attack could explode into life against Scotland - while admitting that it may also take an entire Six Nations campaign to ignite.
However team-mate Josh van der Flier insists Ireland are in the championship to win it.
Skipper Sexton is fired up having spent time working with new head coach Andy Farrell and new attack coach Mike Catt, and having put Ireland's World Cup disappointment behind him.
"It's gone well so far but it doesn’t count for anything until Saturday - and then you have to put it all together," said Sexton
“But I hope that you get to see it on Saturday.
"Sometimes you can prepare to play a brilliant, expansive game and if you don’t get the right set-piece and get first-phase ball or get put under pressure, it can disintegrate.
“So we've just got to be ready for all eventualities and we'll try our best to put out the new style of game we have been working on.
"It could take a while, it might not appear a in this campaign or this game or it could all come to fruition on Saturday. No one knows. Let’s see how the game goes."
However flanker van der Flier believes Ireland are in it to win it. "Obviously winning is the plan," the 26-year-old announced.
"No matter what happens, in any competition I’ve been involved in, you’re not happy unless you win.
"That’s definitely the attitude. You only ever focus on the game in front of you, but we’re in the competition to try and win the competition.
"Everyone will be disappointed if we don’t. That’s obviously the goal".
