Johnny Sexton: 'It’s amazing how people’s opinions can change in the space of a couple of months'

Johnny Sexton is in awe at how quickly people's opinions can change and insists Ireland have not peaked too early ahead of this year's World Cup.

Following their victory over the All-Blacks back in November, the boys in green were being talked up as potential tournament winners.

But a disappointing Six Nations campaign, coupled with Leinster losing their European crown, cast fresh doubt into the minds of fans.

But Sexton is unimpressed with the fickleness, and believes that his side will prove any naysayers wrong in Japan.

“If that’s peoples’ opinion that’s their opinion and there’s nothing you can do about it but I don’t think we’ve peaked,” Sexton told the Irish Mirror.

“I didn’t think we’d peaked when we won the Grand Slam and I didn’t think we’d peaked when we beat the All Blacks either.

“It’s amazing how people’s opinions can change in the space of a couple of months. We beat the All Blacks and all the talk was ‘nothing’s going to stop us winning the World Cup’ and now we’re the worst team ever and people think we peaked.”
