Johnny Russell parties with Celtic fans as Scotland star spotted in Rome ahead of Lazio clash

Scotland star Johnny Russell joined Celtic fans as they partied in a Rome pub.

The Kansas City winger - a Hoops diehard - was pictured enjoying the Italian capital with supporters ahead of Thursday night's Europa League clash with Lazio.

Russell has previously spoken of his affinity for the club and, with the MLS season over, took the opportunity to sample the atmosphere.

Thousands of supporters have descended on the Eternal City and Russell could be seen among the masses in photos posted on social media.

Earlier on Wednesday, the 29-year-old also stopped to pose with a fan outside the Colosseum.

Russell recently reiterated his desire to sign for Celtic, six years after a move to Parkhead fizzled out.

In 2013, the Parkhead side were outbid by Derby to sign the forward, then at Dundee United.

He told BBC Scotland: "Throughout my career I always hoped it would happen.

"It hasn't happened yet, hopefully it does at some point. I grew up dreaming of that.

"I'm happy where I am, but I'm a Celtic fan. The season I went to Derby there was a bid made but Derby offered more, so there was never a choice."

Celtic take on the Serie A giants at the Stadio Olimpico tonight amid reports two supporters have been stabbed while in an Irish pub.

Fans gathered at Flann O'Brien's on Wednesday night when they were targeted.
