Johnny Rotten blanked for Danny Boyle’s Sex Pistols series as 'he's a saboteur'

The Sex Pistols may have been a band who thrived on anarchy, but Johnny Rotten has been left furious after being blanked for Danny Boyle's new series about the musicians.

The frontman, real name John Lydon, sees his career and story hit the screen after the acclaimed director showcased how The Sex Pistols turned the worlds of music and fashion on their heads.

But it appears the 65-year-old is somewhat unimpressed by the portrayal - and his former bandmates - to put it lightly.

The TV series has even created a threat of multi-million-pound lawsuits.

Not one to bite his tongue, John has laid into producers and his former bandmates from his LA home.

He blasted: "I think that’s the most disrespectful s*** I’ve ever had to endure."

And he called out the casting of himself, savagely questioning who they were basing the character on.

Meanwhile, the band's former muse Jordan Mooney, whose story plays a big part in the drama, explained John would have been left out as he is a difficult person to work with.

Jordan told The Sun : "John picks and chooses when he wants to be a punk. If it suits him one day, he will be Johnny Rotten and otherwise he is John Lydon."

The 65-year-old admitted that she believes the other bandmates would be truer to themselves, while saying the singer has "issues about his importance in the world".

"He would just be a saboteur and he wouldn’t bring much to the table," she added.

"It would just be a bad idea to involve John and the writer and Danny Boyle knows that."

And she said she believes he has got more difficult as he's got older and is happy to argue just for the sake of arguing.

The story will also feature the band's guitarist Steve Jones, 65, and drummer Paul Cook, 64.

The pair have both acted as consultants on Pistol and haven't responded to John's comments yet.

However, it was reported in March that the pair already had a case in against their former bandmate and former bass player Glen Matlock, 64, for a breach of contract over unpaid royalties.

And the row has blocked any potential reunion in the band as various members are said to only communicate through their lawyers.
