Johnny Marr send fans into frenzy as he releases new music that reminds them of something

Manchester music legend Johnny Marr has released new music after sending fans into a frenzy by teasing the sound on social media.

The former Smiths guitarist has returned with Spirit, Power And Soul from his forthcoming double album titled Fever Dreams Pts 1-4.

Spirit, Power And Soul, his first new music since 2019, is released today ahead of a new four track EP Fever Dreams Pt 1 released on October 15.

The songs on Fever Dreams Pt 1 EP are described as fusing soul music and his roots as a 'Mancunian glam rocker' with a 'high energy electro sound.'

Speaking about the new single Johnny said: “Spirit, Power And Soul is a kind of mission statement. I had an idea about an electro sound with gospel feeling, in my own words… an electro soul anthem.”

As Johnny teased a short clip on his Instagram fans couldn't contain their excitement.

And many said the clicks and snares reminded them of fellow Manc icons New Order and Electronic, his super group collaboration with New Order frontman Bernard Sumner, Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant of The Pet Shop Boys and former Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos.

The nineties outfit had hits including Get The Message and Getting Away With It.

"Yes Johnny, back to the Electronic vibe and I’m all here for it," cheered one fan.

"Got a real Electronic feel," said another.

"Blue Tuesday," joked a third.

Loving that Johnny. Does have sound a little bit like another certain band. Much love! Please do electronic again," commented another fan.

"Sounds quite PSB," said another music lover.

"I'm so excited this is so cool," bubbled another follower.

"OMG, can’t wait!" gasped another.

"I’m so ready for this to happen," said another follower.

While another yelled: "Dear Lord Johnny, BRING IT ON!"

In September Johnny will play a short sold out headline tour at venues across the UK ahead of joining The Courtneeners at a sold out show at Emirates Old Trafford.

The dates mark Johnny’s return to the live stage and his first shows since performing the Bond theme song No Time To Die with Billie Eilish and long-standing collaborator Hans Zimmer live at the 2019 BRIT Awards.

Next year Johnny will be special guest on The Killers’ headline US arena tour kicking off in August through to October 2022.

The double album release date is yet to be announced.
