Johnny Manziel makes CFL debut with Hamilton Tiger-Cats in preseason game

Johnny Football's Canadian adventure officially got under way Friday night.

Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel made his Canadian Football League debut for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a preseason game, completing 9 of 11 passes for 80 yards and rushing twice for 10 yards in Hamilton's 36-18 loss to Toronto. Hamilton didn't score during five possessions with Manziel at quarterback after he entered the game in the second quarter.

"These guys are the best. I have a lot of fun being here. They haven't done anything but welcome me with open arms from the second I walked into this locker room," Manziel told TSN during the fourth quarter. "I couldn't feel better with where I'm at team-wise and (with) my football career. It is what it is. I'm gonna make the most of it."

Manzeil last played in the NFL for Cleveland in 2015. He worked out for 13 NFL teams, including the Jets and Giants, in March.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan requested a seat in the press box and was supposed to be on hand for Manziel's first CFL game but was not spotted at the stadium, according to USA Today.

Manziel signed with Hamilton after playing two games this year in the Spring League.
