Johnny Manziel exits AAF game after suffering scary head injury

During an Alliance of American Football game on Saturday, Memphis Express quarterback Johnny Manziel suffered a head injury and did not return during the 34-31 loss to the Orlando Apollos.

Manziel took a knee to the head, and fell to the turf, where he remained, not moving for a few moments. He sustained the injury while making a tackle after throwing an interception. After taking the hit to the head, a pair of trainers helped him walk off the field.

Manziel completed 2 of 3 attempts for 13 yards and the interception. He also rushed three times for 18 yards. To his credit, the interception wasn’t completely his fault, as the pass hit the hands of his intended target and deflected into the air for a defender to catch.

Manziel was later spotted on the sideline, where he was crushing nachos, a true recovery food.

The 26-year-old quarterback, the Cleveland Browns’ 22nd overall pick in 2014, has bounced from the NFL to the Canadian Football League to the AAF. Saturday’s appearance was his second game with the Express. He has yet to win the starting job, instead getting a few drives per game behind starting quarterback Brandon Silvers.
