Johnny Kenny signs for Celtic as Ange Postecoglou snaps up promising striker

Top Sligo Rovers prospect Johnny Kenny has signed for Celtic.

The 18-year-old joins the Parkhead side on a five-year deal but is likely to begin in the B team setup.

The six-figure deal has been in the works for some time but talks progressed this week when Celtic agreed to a number of add-ons, with a sell-on clause also included.

Hibs were also reportedly interested in landing the striker but the Glasgow giants have won the battle for his signature.

And it goes down as the fourth signing of the winter window for Ange Postecoglou after the manager snapped up Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi on Hogmanay.

Kenny grabbed 11 goals in a breakout League of Ireland season and it sees Postecoglou return to the Emerald Isle for reinforcements, having signed Liam Scales from Shamrock Rovers in the summer window.
