Johnny Kenny explains Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou's influence in convincing him to make Hoops move

Johnny Kenny has given an insight into why he joined Celtic, explaining the impact Ange Postecoglou had on his decision.

The 18-year-old striker arrived at Parkhead from League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers on a five-year deal.

He was the Hoops' fourth signing of the January window, following the recruitment of Japanese trio Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate.

Kenny may not have arrived with the same fanfare as his new teammates but he is desperate to have a positive impact at the club.

A number of youngsters have featured under Postecoglou - including Stephen Welsh, Adam Montgomery, Liam Scales and more - and Kenny said that the manager’s belief in youth was crucial in his decision.

"The manager was massive," he told the club's website.

"I was talking to him a few times before I came and it’s amazing the way he wants to play and what he thinks of me.

"The amount of young players he’s brought through here has been unreal and I hope I can play under him.

"I’ve signed a long-term deal so I want to come here, win trophies, score goals, get the fans on my side and win stuff here at Celtic Park and bring more success."

After a bright year with his hometown club, Kenny is desperate to impress his new side.

Reflecting on his move, he said: "It feels amazing.

"Thankfully it’s over the line now and it’s time to get down to work and impress the manager and get in and amongst it all.

"I had a good season with Sligo and it was great to play there but when Celtic come in it’s a no brainer.

"It’s such a big club here and back home and so many of my family and friends support the club, so I couldn’t wait to get here."
