March 18--Highlights from the Angels' 4-4 tie with the Colorado Rockies on Thursday:
AT THE PLATE: Second baseman Johnny Giavotella, batting third as the Angels gave most of their stars the day off, doubled home two runs in his first at-bat. He also singled and stole a base. Infielder Cliff Pennington and catcher Jett Bandy had two hits apiece, and third baseman Jefry Marte delivered his team-high fifth double.
ON THE MOUND: Hector Santiago gave up one run -- a solo home run -- and struck out six in 4 1/3 innings. Santiago has a 3.00 earned-run average, the lowest of any Angels starter except Andrew Heaney. Closer Huston Street made his third Cactus League appearance, with the same results as the first two: one inning, no runs. Former Dodgers closer Javy Guerra, trying to win a spot in the Angels' bullpen, had a rocky inning -- three runs, two hits, one walk, one wild pitch, one hit batter.
EXTRA BASES: It has been so long since the Angels lost that the last guy who was a losing pitcher for the Angels has retired. The Angels extended their unbeaten streak to seven games Thursday, with five victories and two ties. The Angels last lost March 10, when Rob Rasmussen was the losing pitcher. The team announced Rasmussen's retirement Tuesday.
