Johnny Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez still texts him 'often' as she considers tell-all book

Camille Vasquez has said that she texts Johnny Depp "often" after having represented him in his defamation trial last year, which brought her international attention.

The attorney, 38, was part of his legal team during the case, which was between Johnny, now 59, and his ex-wife Amber Heard, now 37, over her op-ed about domestic violence.

The trial, held in Virginia, reached a verdict on June 1 last year that mostly favoured her client Johnny - who recently made his return to acting with Jeanne du Barry (2023).

A year on from the verdict, attorney Camille has revealed that she is still in contact with Johnny and teased the possibility of writing a book in the future about her career.

Discussing having kept in contact with him, she told People magazine: "The last time I spoke to [him] on the phone was probably a few months ago, but we text often."

"There's a group of us that texts with him and we send emails, obviously congratulating him on the success that he's had in the last year," the attorney further commented.

Camille added that she hopes to attend one of his concerts with some of her colleagues later this year, as Johnny is set to tour the US as part of the band Hollywood Vampires.

She told the outlet that she is "so proud" of the work that the legal team did together as part of the trial and she praised her "tremendous" colleagues, including associates.

Camille - who has since landed a role as a legal analyst on NBC News - was asked during her interview if she would ever write a book about the high-profile defamation case.

Whilst she suggested that she's open to the possibility, Camille said there is "nothing in the works" for now. She however added that it's something she has thought about previously.

She said that herself and Benjamin Chew - who was also part of the legal team - have "joked" about the possibility of writing a book together, potentially about the trial.

Camille however said that she feels as though a tell-all book about her own life and career path would be more likely. She said her story is "maybe half written," adding: "While the trial was a significant portion of my career ... the real story about who I am and my path, there's still more to be written and to be done."

The case between Johnny and his ex-wife Amber had centred on her op-ed for the Washington Post about domestic violence from 2018, which he argued had implied that he had abused her and it was claimed that the article had impacted his ability to work.

The jury found in his favour and awarded him $15 million (around £12 million) in damages. This was reduced to around $10 million (around £8 million) due to a cap in Virginia.

Jurors also found in favour of one of Amber's counterclaims in the trial, which related to remarks made about her. She was awarded $2 million (around £1.5 million) in damages.

Amber initially suggested that she would appeal the verdict in the case, but it was later announced in December last year that the former couple had settled the case.
