Johnny Depp joked he might take Amber Heard’s last name while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his latest film, Black Mass.

Depp was speaking to Kimmel about the origin of his last name, saying he had “no idea” about the history of his last name.

When Kimmel noted that Depp’s wife, actress Amber Heard, didn’t take his last name, Depp said: “Maybe I’ll take her name”.

Though Kimmel laughed and said “that would be a weird thing”, many other celebrities have taken their wives’ last names.

The White Stripes’ Jack White changed his name from Jack Gillis when he married Meg White in 1996. Though the couple have divorced, he has kept the name.

John Lennon also added his wife Yoko Ono’s last name as his middle name, becoming John Ono Lennon. She did the same for him.

The rapper Jay Z added Beyoncé's legal last name to his own, becoming Shawn Knowles-Carter.
