Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck release cover of John Lennon song Isolation

Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck have released a cover of John Lennon’s Isolation, saying they hope it helps listeners “make some sense of the moment”.

Depp, who has musical credentials after his work in the supergroup Hollywood Vampires, provides vocals on the track, while Beck’s guitar work gives the song a rockier edge than the original.

“Jeff Beck and I recorded this song Isolation last year, as our take on a beautiful John Lennon tune,” said Depp.

“Lennon’s poetry – ‘We’re afraid of everyone. Afraid of the Sun!’ – seemed to Jeff and me especially profound right now, this song about isolation, fear, and existential risks to our world.

“So we wanted to give it to you, and hope it helps you make sense of the moment or just helps you pass the time as we endure isolation together.”

The song also features Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Rhonda Smith on bass.

Beck added that he and Depp would be releasing more music “in a little while”, coming after years of collaboration between the pair. “Until then we hope you find some comfort and solidarity in our take on this Lennon classic,” Beck added.

Isolation was first featured on Lennon’s debut solo record, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, released in 1970, soon after the dissolution of the Beatles.
