Amber Heard told the court Johnny Depp threatened to kill her "many times" as she faces three days of questioning over 14 allegations of domestic violence which have all been denied by her former husband.
Mr Depp, 57, is suing The Sun's publisher News Group Newspapers (NGN) and its executive editor Dan Wootton over an April 2018 article which alleged he was violent towards ex-wife Ms Heard, 34, during their tumultuous relationship.
Wearing a cream blouse and dark pencil skirt, Ms Heard affirmed her oath before being taken to her witness statements in the trial bundle by Sasha Wass QC, for NGN.
In a sworn statement to the court, released on Monday, Ms Heard said: "Some incidents were so severe that I was afraid he was going to kill me, either intentionally or just by losing control and going too far. He explicitly threatened to kill me many times, especially later in our relationship."
The Aquaman actress also described a “three-day hostage situation” where she claims Mr Depp went on a drug binge, attacked her, urinated in front of people and hid raw meat in a wardrobe.
