Johnny Cash, Foo Fighters and D’Angelo are among the artists releasing limited-edition vinyl at this year’s Record Store Day.
The annual event has unveiled the full list of items to be put on sale on 18 April, including recordings by Brian Wilson, U2, Foo Fighters, Vampire Weekend, Bruce Springsteen, Courtney Barnett, Father John Misty, J Dilla, Metallica and Paul McCartney.
Of particular note at this year’s event is Johnny Cash’s 1983 live album Koncert v Praze (In Prague—Live), which appears on special red vinyl, a reference to the fact it was originally recorded behind the Iron Curtain.
Soul icon D’Angelo returned in 2014 with Black Messiah, his first album in 14 years. He’ll be releasing two of its’ tracks – Charade and 1,000 Deaths – on 7 inch vinyl.
Dave Grohl is this year’s Record Store Day ambassador and his band Foo Fighters have a special release lined up. Songs From the Laundry Room is a 10-inch vinyl containing demos of Big Me and Alone + Easy Target, along with previously unreleased track Empty Handed and a cover of Kim Wilde’s Kids in America.
Elsewhere, Paul McCartney is putting out a re-pressing of his 1967 film score The Family Way: Original Soundtrack Recording, while Brian Wilson releases a 7-inch containing two songs from his forthcoming album No Pier Pressure; The Right Time and Sail Away feature appearances from former Beach Boys members.
Previously announced releases for this year’s Record Store Day include the reissue of the White Stripes’ Get Behind Me Satan, along with records by Neko Case and Of Montreal. Jack White will also be reissuing the first Elvis recording ever put to vinyl – 1953’s My Happiness - after paying $300,000 for the acetate at auction.
