Johnny Black back in the Irish League after joining Crusaders

Johnny Black is back in the Irish League after signing for Crusaders.

The Shore Road club announced the 32-year-old's arrival during the half-time interval of their Premiership game with Portadown on Tuesday night.

Black played with Coleraine, Glentoran and Linfield in the Irish Premiership before moving to Australia in 2013.

During his time Down Under the versatile defender played for clubs including Oakleigh Cannons in the Australian Premier League and St Kilda Celts.

Crusaders said on their Twitter account: "Crusaders are pleased to announce the deadline day signing of Johnny Black.

"Johnny recently returned from Australia and Stephen Baxter was quick to snap up his services.

" More To Follow. Welcome to Seaview Johnny."

Speaking to Belfast Live back in 2018, Black said he would never rule out a return to the Irish League.

He said: "I would never say never. It all depends how things go in Australia.

"I watch the highlights of the Irish League every Sunday in Australia. I have followed the league ever since I left.

"It is great to see clubs like Crusaders and Coleraine doing well. It keeps things interesting.

"I was contacted by a few managers when I was in Australia, asking if I was coming back. Maybe one day I will return home to settle down again."
