While 2020 has seen plenty of disruption to the film schedule, movie fans can take some solace in the knowledge that 2021 will have a feat of new releases and form the looks of things, Nobody has made claim to the title of best actioner of the year.
Ok, that nobody is actually somebody that's quite well known, Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, Little Women), and from the looks of the trailer, Nobody is going to be one hell of a ride.
In the film, Odenkirk plays Hutch Mansell, an underestimated and overlooked dad and husband, taking life’s indignities on the chin and never pushing back.
Basically, a nobody.
However, when two thieves break into his suburban home one night, Hutch declines to defend himself or his family, hoping to prevent serious violence.
His teenage son, Blake (Gage Munroe, The Shack), is disappointed in him and his wife, Becca (Connie Nielsen, Wonder Woman), seems to pull only further away.
The aftermath of the incident strikes a match to Hutch’s long-simmering rage, triggering dormant instincts and propelling him on a brutal path that will surface dark secrets and lethal skills. In a barrage of fists, gunfire and squealing tires, Hutch must save his family from a dangerous adversary and ensure that he will never be underestimated as a nobody again.
Nobody was written by Derek Kolst - the narrative architect of the John Wick franchise - with Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, the team behind Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw, Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde, producing this one too.
Elsewhere, it's great to see Christopher Lloyd (Back To the Future) on the billing as Hutch’s father, while musician-actor RZA stars as Hutch’s brother.
Nobody is set to arrive in Irish cinemas in 2021.
