John Wick Ballerina Spinoff Movie Delayed To 2025 For Improvements

John Wick-FanArt

John Wick star Ian McShane recently shed light on the delay of the Ballerina spinoff movie, offering insights into the reasons behind the decision. The film, featuring Ana de Armas as the lead character, is intricately tied to the John Wick universe and includes key figures such as McShane's Winston Scott. Initially scheduled for a June release this year, the movie has been postponed to 2025 to incorporate new action sequences.

Alongside de Armas and McShane, the cast of Ballerina boasts names like Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Keanu Reeves. McShane clarified that the delay is not due to reshoots but the addition of entirely new sequences to enhance the final product under the guidance of original John Wick director Chad Stahelski.

The actor emphasized the importance of safeguarding the franchise and striving for excellence in the film. McShane also mentioned his lack of involvement in The Continental, a recent prequel show, as neither he nor Reeves were consulted about it.

Originating from the 2014 John Wick movie with a modest budget, the franchise has evolved into a box office sensation, with each installment surpassing its predecessor. Lionsgate's ambitious plans for the future of the John Wick series extend beyond Ballerina and a potential John Wick 5.

Recognizing the need for meticulous planning to expand the franchise successfully, the decision to delay Ballerina aligns with the goal of perfecting its action sequences. With Stahelski juggling responsibilities between John Wick and the upcoming Highlander reboot, refining Ballerina is crucial for its potential sequels.

The postponement of Ballerina by a year aims to ensure the film meets the high standards set by the franchise. By allowing ample time for development, the movie can deliver a compelling narrative worthy of its John Wick origins.
