John W Henry's biggest signings – in pictures

Luis Suárez
Luis Suárez
Transfer fee £22m
Signed as the transfer window closed in January, Suárez has been Liverpool's most successful signing in the Henry era. He creates goals as well as scores them and starred in this summer's Copa América, where he was crucial to Uruguay's triumph

Andy Carroll
Andy Carroll
Transfer fee £35m
Carroll arrived on the same day as Suárez and his huge transfer fee was a club record for Liverpool. Carroll's Liverpool career has been disrupted by injury and he has yet to have the impact many had hoped

Jordan Henderson
Jordan Henderson
Transfer fee £20m
Henderson arrived in June this year and some questioned whether a talented but unproven player justified such a high fee. Has struggled at times settling into a rejigged Liverpool midfield but is still only 21 and has time to develop

Charlie Adam
Charlie Adam
Transfer fee £7.5m
One of the stars of Blackpool's brief stay in the Premier League last season, Liverpool tried to sign Adam in January 2011 before finally completing a deal in the summer transfer window. His partnership with Lucas means Liverpool lack pace in midfield and he was sent off against Spurs but he has been effective from set pieces

Stewart Downing
Stewart Downing Transfer fee £20m Another major summer signing for Kenny Dalglish, Downing is now a regular in the England squad. It was hoped he would provide the crosses that would exploit Carroll's aerial power but the striker's stuttering form and fitness means the partnership is yet to hit its full stride Photograph: John Powell/Liverpool FC via Getty Images
José Enrique
José Enrique
Transfer fee £6m
Had been one of Newcastle's best players for the past few years and has settled well into the Liverpool squad, linking up well with Downing. Is a relatively cheap signing compared to other arrivals in the Henry era

Carl Crawford
Carl Crawford
A regular All-Star selection, the Red Sox signed Crawford on a $140m seven-year contract in December last year. A brilliant outfielder, Crawford struggled at the start of his Red Sox career and his season's batting average of .255 was well below his career record of .293

Adrian Gonzalez
Adrian Gonzalez Gonzalez was the first overall pick in the 2000 Major League draft and has been an All-Star for the past four years. The first baseman played much of his career for the San Diego Padres before joining the Red Sox in December 2010 on a $154m seven-year contract. He has been a success at the Red Sox, batting above his career average, although he has not hit as many home runs as many fans would have liked Photograph: Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images
