John Terry tells Jamie Carragher he should be in his team of the decade over Van Dijk or Kompany

John Terry has hit back at Jamie Carragher's decision not to include him in his Premier League team of the decade.

Following Aston Villa's 2-0 win over Newcastle, Carragher and Gary Neville were asked on Sky Sports Monday Night Football to pick a XI made up of who they thought were the best footballers in the top flight over the past 10 years.

The pundit duo both selected the exact same back four - Pablo Zabaleta at right-back, Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back, and Vincent Kompany and Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.

But Terry was quick to point out to Carragher that he deserved to be included, and posted on Instagram to voice his discontent.

Replying on Carragher’s post, Terry listed his achievements over the last decade at Chelsea, including his Premier League titles.

The former Blues captain also included some ‘thinking face’ emojis and pointed to the 2014/15 campaign, where he became only the second footballer in Premier League history to play every minute of their title-winning season.

Terry has since emulated by Wes Morgan, who achieved it the following season with Leicester City, and Cesar Azpilicueta, who played every minute in Chelsea’s 2016/17 title-winning season under Antonio Conte.

Carragher had mentioned Terry when discussing his choices on air, and pointed out that he does still rate the former Chelsea skipper as one of the best defenders in Premier League history.

But the 41-year-old could not resist including Van Dijk, who he believes will eventually overtake Terry as the greatest of all time.

“When he finishes at Liverpool, I think he will be No 1,” he said on Sky Sports.

“I always said John Terry but I think he will be even better.”
