John Terry singles out one Chelsea player for criticism after Manchester United defeat

John Terry has criticised Antonio Rudiger for his part in Manchester United’s opening goal, as his former side Chelsea slipped to a 2-0 home defeat on Monday night.

The Blues conceded just before half time, as they fell at home for the fifth time in the league already this season - more defeats at Stamford Bridge than their incredible home run between February 2004 and November 2010.

United cut the gap to Chelsea down to just three points as a result, as the race for the Champions League places gets ever tighter.

Headed goals from Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire did the damage for United, but Terry believes that Rudiger could have prevented the opener.

Andreas Christensen was the player Martial beat in the air for the header, after just coming back onto the pitch after treatment for a bloodied nose.

However, speaking to DAZN, the former Chelsea captain took aim at the Rudiger’s positioning, saying: “I think if you look at Rudiger in the build-up to that, the ball goes wide and he kind of gets sucked out into an area where he’s not really going to affect it. He can pass on him.

“If you could have Rudiger just outside the six-yard box, just stop that run across, Martial then can’t make that run across and that just allows that second centre-half to go touch tight and be more aggressive with him.”
