A large amount of Tottenham’s transfer activity will heavily depend on Harry Kane and whether the 28-year-old will still be present in north London come the end of the window.
The England captain is still heavily linked with a move to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City but football.london understands that Daniel Levy will not consider a sale unless an offer of at least around the £150million mark is made.
Large sections of the Tottenham fanbase have been left frustrated with the way Kane has dealt with the situation, following reports that he missed training in an attempt to force a move away from the club.
But the player himself was quick to dismiss rumours via his Twitter account
"It's almost ten years since I made my Spurs debut. For every one of those years, you - the fans - have shown me total support and love," he said in a statement on his Twitter account.
"That's why it hurts to read some of the comments that have been made this week, questioning my professionalism.
"While I won't go into the specifics of the situation, I want to clarify that I would never, and have never, refused to train."
With talk still rife over his future amid claims Kane wants to win trophies on a regular basis, Chelsea legend John Terry believes that the striker has shown a lot of loyalty to the club.
“To be honest, I think Harry has been very loyal to Tottenham," he told Stadium Astro on YouTube.
“I think he’s probably stayed a year too long if I’m honest in my opinion. I think it’s different as well, listen we don’t know what conversations are going on between Harry and Daniel Levy as well.
“If Tottenham were kind of out in the transfer market spending £100, £150, £200 million then Harry’s got a decision to make.
“If the club are not really reinvesting and looking to really compete with these top sides, then I think the only option for Harry is to leave and you know I don’t think any Tottenham fan can blame him’’.
It will certainly be a huge loss for Spurs if they do lose their man, especially when considering the fact that the role Kane played throughout most parts of last season is tailored to new boss Nuno Espirito Santos’ style of play.
Under Jose Mourinho, the striker was not only influential in front of goal but his ability to drop deep and connect the midfield and attack together was pivotal in allowing the likes of Heung-Min Son to attack the spaces vacated as well as enabling the full-backs to push forward and maintain width.
During Espirito Santo's time for Wolves, centre forward Raul Jimenez was tasked with similar instructions in occupying opposing centre-backs by playing with his back to goal, so it will be crucial that Tottenham bring in a striker with a similar profile if Kane does leave the club.
