John Terry reacts to Sergio Aguero wearing Argentina kit during World Cup celebration

John Terry has made light of the fact Sergio Aguero emulated his famous antics by dressing in an Argentina shirt following his country's World Cup triumph.

The now-retired star was at the Lusail Stadium as he saw his nation beat France in Sunday's pulsating final. Aguero recently called time on his career just months after leaving Manchester City and observed as he saw his compatriots involved in arguably the greatest World Cup final and revelled in their joy.

Despite now being a retired player, Aguero was prepared in a similar way Terry was when Chelsea won their first Champions League crown ten years ago. He was on the pitch with the Argentina squad, wearing a shirt with the No.19 as well as shorts and trainers.

Terry jokingly said on BeIN Sports: "Aguero has gone for the full John Terry there hasn’t he?! I did it first." The former City star had been rooming with Lionel Messi in the lead up to the final with the pair known to be extremely close. Messi is godfather to Aguero's son.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was carried around the pitch on Aguero's shoulders as he held the World Cup and celebrated with his team-mates and the thousands of adoring fans. Messi scored two of Argentina's three goals before also converting his spot kick as they won the shootout.

The full kit photo of Terry remains a defining image of his career and that night in Munich a decade ago. The skipper did not feature in the contest having been sent-off in the semi-final against Barcelona. He famously missed the crucial spot kick in the 2008 final and couldn't influence events four years later.

Terry though stood on the podium in his full kit when the trophy was presented and former team-mate Ramires has confirmed it was in fact the club's wish. He told FourFourTwo: "All of us changed post-match. The idea came from the club, because they wanted everyone ready for the team photo."

Frank Lampard, who played in the 2012 final success, has also maintained that Terry was entitled to his moment in the sun given his efforts. "If there is one man at this football club who deserves that moment, it was John," he told Sky Sports previously. "He was fighting along the way, sticking his body on the line in the first leg against Barcelona.

"It's the modern day of social media, people want to jump on anything! The main man of the club can wear what he wants. He can pick up that cup in whatever he wants, and it's fully deserved!"
